Bang Bang Shrimp

Servings 4

Bang bang shrimp with Savannah Bee Hot Sauce.

Overview

Crispy, golden shrimp get tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce made with our Mad as a Hornet Hot Sauce and a kick of sriracha. Served over crisp Bibb lettuce, this sweet-and-spicy favorite works just as well as a crowd-pleasing appetizer as it does a meal.

Instructions

  1. Soak the shrimp in the buttermilk while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Heat canola oil in a heavy bottomed skillet or dutch over over medium-high until the oil reaches 375* F.
  3. While the oil is heating, remove the shrimp from the buttermilk and discard extra buttermilk.  Place the cornstarch in a shallow bowl and coat the shrimp fully, shaking off any excess cornstarch.
  4. Gently place the shrimp into the oil in small batches for roughly 2 minutes, flipping over half way through.  When the outside is slightly browned, remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel lined plate.
  5. Continue cooking all of the shrimp.  Sprinkle with salt to taste.
  6. Mix the mayonnaise, hot sauce and sriracha in a medium bowl and toss the fried shrimp with the sauce.
  7. Serve hot over bibb lettuce

*Buttermilk can be replaced with 1 ½ cups milk and 1 ½ Tablespoons lemon juice.  Mix and allow to sit for a few minutes until it is slightly curdled.
