Bourbon Hot Honey Bananas
If you’re a fan of the New Orleans dessert, Bananas Foster, then you’re going to love our version. Browned butter is kissed with a hint of spice and sweetness from our hot honey and then infused with bourbon—the perfect sauce for serving over vanilla ice cream.
Bourbon Hot Honey Bananas
(our spicy take on Bananas Foster)
Serves 4
What you need:
3 ripe, firm bananas, peeled
¼ cup salted butter
¼ cup Savannah Bee Company honey (we used Hot Honey), plus more for drizzling over
2 tablespoons bourbon
Vanilla ice cream
What to do:
1. Wash Up!
2. Prep the Bananas: Cut the bananas in half crosswise. Cut the halves in half lengthwise. Set aside.
3. Make the Sauce: Melt the butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook until the milk solids begin to brown and smell nutty. Stir in the honey and bring to a boil.
4. Cook the Bananas: Add the bananas to the skillet and turn in the sauce until coated. Cook 1 to 2 minutes or until the bananas are slightly softened. Carefully add the bourbon and cook 1 more minute or until the alcohol cooks off.
To Serve: Spoon the bananas and sauce over bowls of vanilla ice cream and drizzle with more honey. Serve immediately.
Pro Tip: If using a gas cooktop, you may want to turn off the heat when you add the bourbon. Or, be aware that the sauce can flame up due to the alcohol in the bourbon.
