Blood Orange Rum Hot Toddy
This rum toddy with honey and gorgeous jewel-toned blood orange juice is one of our favorite winter cocktails. Not only is it delicious, but a warm toddy has also long been believed to help soothe a sore throat and other winter time ailments. We’ll cheers to that!
Blood Orange Rum Hot Toddy
(honey + warm spices + blood orange juice)
Serves 4
What you need:
1 cup dark or white rum
2 cups water
Cinnamon sticks and whole star anise for garnish
3 cinnamon sticks
½ teaspoon whole cloves
1 star anise
3 whole allspice
4 cups blood orange juice
½ cup Savannah Bee Company Honey (we used Orange Blossom Honey)
What to do:
1. Wash Up!
2. Steep the cocktail base: Combine the blood orange juice, water, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, allspice, and orange peel in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes.
3. Finish the hot toddy: Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a heat-proof pitcher or measuring cup. Stir in the honey and rum until the honey dissolves.
To Serve: Divide the hot toddy between serving mugs. Garnish with cinnamon sticks or star anise, if desired. Serve warm.
Pro Tip: Blood oranges are in season in from around November to April. Look for bottled blood orange juice in the produce department of your grocery store. You can also use cara cara oranges instead.
