Hot Honey Chicken Sandwiches
We may be biased, but we think our fried chicken sandwich is so much better than that drive-thru version. Marinated in a tangy, dill pickle and buttermilk bath and then fried up to perfection, ours is drenched in spicy hot honey for a sweet, fiery kick. Bet it’ll become your favorite too!
Hot Honey Chicken Sandwiches
(buttermilk fried chicken + pickles + hot honey)
Serves 4
What You Need:
4 small boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or 2 large; cut in half crosswise)
1 cup whole buttermilk
2 tablespoons dill pickle juice
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons garlic powder, divided
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
Vegetable oil for frying
½ cup mayonnaise
Savannah Bee Company Hot Honey
Potato buns, shredded lettuce, and dill pickle chips for serving
What to do:
1. Wash Up!
2. Marinate the chicken: Pound the chicken into an even thickness if needed. Combine the chicken, buttermilk, and pickle juice in a medium bowl, turning to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or up to overnight.
3. Make the flour dredge: Stir together the flour, paprika, and 1 teaspoon garlic powder in a shallow dish.
4. Season and fry the chicken: Remove the chicken from the marinade and let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Pour enough oil to reach 2 inches up the sides of a Dutch oven. Heat to 350°F. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture. (For extra coating, dredge in flour, then in buttermilk, then in flour again.) Add the chicken to the hot oil and cook until a meat thermometer inserted in the thickest portion registers 165°F. Remove the chicken to a wire rack to drain.
5. Make the garlic mayo: Stir together the mayonnaise and remaining 1 teaspoon garlic powder.
To Serve: Spread the mayonnaise on the buns. Top the bottom buns with chicken and drizzle heavily with hot honey. Top with shredded lettuce, pickles, and bun tops.
Pro Tip: If the chicken is getting too browned before the center is cooked through, finish cooking it in an oven heated to 350°F.
