An Easter Message From Ted
Easter is the time of rebirth - an affirmation of life.
I naturally tend toward optimism and hope. I have an LLC named A Hope and a Promise and I used to have a license plate on my old truck that said “HOPEFUL.” Since my introduction to bees in 1980, I’ve excitedly expected the springtime blooms in an expanded way that I don’t think a non-beekeeper could fully appreciate.
For a beekeeper, springtime expectation is better than summertime harvest because the hives are in a pregnant state of building up from their winter dearth. There are fresh white combs with perfect hexagon chambers to be filled. The queen is swelling the population to collect the anticipated nectar and pollen from the flowers. The hives and the entire bee yard have an intoxicating smell like rising bread that makes one’s heart beat faster. Spring is bursting with the excitement of something great coming.
The realistic fact that the weather doesn’t often cooperate with perfect honey production takes a backseat to an imagined liquid treasure. And so too with everyday life, the excitement of possibility keeps us motivated amid an imperfect reality. I know I am driven by the pursuit of a better life for all, and for the growth of Savannah Bee in often implausible dimensions. But it is that hope and a promise that inspires me to stretch for greatness. A vision of life filled with love triumphing over death and darkness keeps me reaching for the light. I’m so excited working with the bees and will be placing additional empty boxes on all the hives for the beautiful honey that is coming.
