Santa Baby (Peppermint Hot Cocoa)
When December rolls around, this is the holiday drink we crave. The peppermint flavor of this warm white chocolate hot cocoa gets us in the Christmas spirit.
Santa Baby (Peppermint Hot Cocoa)
(pink peppermint + white chocolate hot cocoa)
Serves 4
What you need:
½ cup unsalted butter
2/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons Savannah Bee Company Honey (we used Acacia Honey)
4 cups whole milk
2 (4-ounce) bars white chocolate, coarsely chopped
Heavy pinch of salt
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
Few drops of red food coloring (optional)
Sweetened whipped cream
Candy canes or crushed peppermints for garnish
What to do:
1. Wash Up!
- Start the cocoa: Stir together the honey, milk, white chocolate, and salt in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium until the chocolate melts, stirring constantly. Heat until simmering.
- Finish the cocoa: Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the peppermint extract and food coloring, if using.
To Serve: Divide the cocoa between mugs. Top with whipped cream and crushed peppermints.
Pro Tip: The milk solids from the white chocolate will naturally rise to the top of the cocoa and create a separate layer. Feel free to skim off the layer if you’d like.
Table Talk: What Christmas song makes you cringe?
