Bourbon Honey Lacquered Turkey
(Port Bourbon Barrel Aged Orange Blossom Honey, turkey + oranges)
Serves 4
What you need:
1 to 2-pound turkey roast (skin on), can substitute turkey breast or Cornish game hens
1 orange
1/2 cup Savannah Bee Company honey (we used Port Bourbon Barrel Aged Orange Blossom Honey) divided (note: we also LOVE this recipe using our Hot Honey or Wildflower Honey)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
2 cloves roasted garlic, mashed
2 tablespoons avocado oil
Flat leaf parsley for garnish
What to do:
1. Wash Up!
2. Prepare Turkey: Dry the turkey using paper towels and set aside. Using a produce peeler, skin the orange and set skin aside. Cut orange in half and juice half of the orange into a mixing bowl. Slice the entire orange into thick slices and set aside. In the bowl with orange juice, combine 1/4 cup honey, salt, ground pepper, mashed garlic, and oil. Coat the entire turkey in this mixture and place in a small roasting pan. Place oranges and orange peel on and around the turkey.
3. Roast Turkey: In an oven preheated to 350° F. Roast the turkey for 1 - 1 1/2 hours until a thermometer reads 175 degrees in the center. Every 20-30 minutes during roasting, use a basting brush and brush on more honey. Remove from oven and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
To Serve: Slice and serve with pan juices, roasted oranges and garnished with parsley.
Pro Tip: Triple the Bourbon honey sauce recipe and lacquer a whole turkey!
