Tinto de Verano
This effervescent drink popular in Spain screams summer. Similar to sangria, it’s a red-wine based cocktail that we’ve flavored with a honey lemon-lime syrup in place of the citrusy soda that’s usually added.
Tinto de Verano
(red wine + honey lemon-lime syrup)
Serves 2
What You Need:
For the lemon-lime syrup:
¼ cup Savannah Bee Company honey (we used Whipped Honey with Lemon)
Peel of 1 lemon
Peel of 1 lime
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
Pinch of kosher salt
¾ cup fresh lemon juice
For the cocktail:
Ice cubes
½ cup (4 ounces) dry red wine
3 tablespoons (1½ ounces) sweet vermouth
3 tablespoons (1½ ounces) lemon-lime syrup
Club soda for topping
Lemon slices and marigolds for garnish
What to do:
1. Wash Up!
2. Make the lemon-lime syrup: Combine the lemon peel, lime peel, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan over low heat. Muddle with a muddler or wooden spoon for 1 minute. Add the lemon juice and whipped honey and stir until combined. Transfer the syrup to a jar and chill until cooled.
3. Make the cocktail: Add ice to a cocktail shaker. Add the wine, vermouth, and lemon-lime syrup and shake until chilled. Strain into ice-filled glasses.
To Serve: Top the cocktails with club soda and garnish with lemon slices and marigolds.
Pro Tip: Pitcher this drink up and serve with bottles of club soda on a bar for a simple self-serve cocktail.
