Salted Honey Caramel Sauce
Caramel sauce (especially with honey) is one of those things that’s worth making yourself. This quick honey caramel sauce is a homemade game changer for elevating simple desserts like a slice of apple or a scoop of meh ice cream.
Salted Honey Caramel Sauce
(brown sugar, vanilla + honey)
Serves 8
What you need:
1/2 cup your favorite Savannah Bee Company Honey (we used Lavender Honey)
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup half and half
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
What to do:
1. Wash Up.
2. Make the sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the honey, brown sugar, half and half, butter and salt. Cook while whisking gently for 5-7 minutes until it thickens. Add vanilla and cook another minute to thicken more. Remove from heat.
3. Store the sauce: After cooling for a few minutes, pour the sauce into a jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks (It won’t last that long!)
To Serve: Slice up tart apples and dip, or spoon over ice cream and dust with a little extra coarse salt.
Pro Tip: If you have an extra vanilla pod that has been used already, don’t throw it away! Add the pod to a container and fill with 4 cups of sugar or 2 cups of sea salt. Leave it in this container for at least 2 weeks, shaking every few days and you’ll have deliciously infused sugar or salt! Vanilla Sea Salt is magnificent in this recipe.
Table Talk: If you were opening an ice cream shop what would you name it?
