Mini Brats with Sauerkraut and Honey Hot Sauce
Inspired by a German Oktoberfest snack, this mini bratwurst sandwiches are the perfect appetizer to serve at a tailgate or other get-together. Drizzled with our hot honey and Dijon mustard sauce, guests won’t be able to get enough of this handheld snack.
Mini Brats with Sauerkraut and Honey Hot Sauce
(beer, brats, sauerkraut + honey hot sauce mustard)
Serves 12
What you need:
6 bratwursts
1 (12-ounce) can lager beer
1 sweet onion, halved and sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 (16-ounce) package sauerkraut
2 tablespoons Savannah Bee Company® Honey Hot Sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
12 crusty dinner rolls, split
Celery salt for serving
What to do:
1. Wash Up!
2. Poach the bratwurst: Combine the bratwurst, beer, ½ cup water, and onion in a medium saucepan. Steam the bratwurst and onions for 10 minutes, or until the bratwurst are cooked through.
3. Grill the bratwurst: Preheat a grill to medium-high heat. Remove the bratwurst from the poaching liquid and grill 2 to 3 minutes, until browned on all sides.
4. Sauté the sauerkraut: Add the oil to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sauerkraut and cook until slightly caramelized and heated through.
5. Make the sauce: Stir together the hot honey and mustard.
To Serve: Cut each of the bratwurst in half lengthwise. Divide the bratwurst and sauerkraut between the rolls. Drizzle with the sauce and sprinkle with celery salt before serving.
