Honey for Your Health

There’s no doubt that honey brings gorgeous, golden sweetness to everyday life.

But did you know this amazing elixir has properties that can improve your health? We’re not saying it fixes absolutely everything, ‘cause that would be wildly irresponsible. And probably wrong. We’re not medical professionals, we’re not even medical amateurs.

However, we have earned some authority on the bees’ magnificent handiwork. Used by humans for millennia to treat issues from eczema to constipation, honey has been proven by *actual science* to provide multiple benefits to the human body. It’s packed with enzymes, antioxidants, and other nutrients, and when taken consistently can reduce inflammation, fight off bacteria, and boost immunity. 

Even the actual medical professionals cite research for its use in specific conditions, including:

● Healing wounds and burns

● Suppressing coughs and soothing respiratory irritation

● Relieving gastrointestinal distress

● Reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease

● Treating Type 2 diabetes and other metabolic issues

And while it has yet to be clinically validated in a lab, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that honey helps with what we like to call the “itchy-sneezies” and other symptoms caused by those pesky seasonal allergies.

Here at Savannah Bee Co., we’re obviously pretty obsessed with honey. We’re constantly looking for ways to incorporate it into our routines and help us practice self-care. These are our favorite ways to use honey for our health:

● Saw Palmetto Honey This robust, dark-hued honey contains more than 20 times the nutrients as its lighter counterparts. A spoonful a day—dissolved in tea or straight from the jar, we’re not gonna judge—gives a wallop of immune-boosting antioxidants and antimicrobials to help you fight off whatever yuckies come your way. 

● Bee Pollen These tiny golden granules have such powerful benefits that the German Federal Board of Health classifies them as medicine. Start with a half teaspoon a day and work your way up to 2-5 teaspoons to jack up your immune system, attack allergies, relieve inflammation, reduce stress, and even ease symptoms of menopause. 

● Raw Honeycomb Don’t be intimidated by the bees’ clever containers for their life-giving concoction. Raw honey contains the highest amount of unadulterated nutrients, and eating beeswax supplies heart-healthy fatty acids. We’ve got plenty of easy suggestions of how to enjoy raw honeycomb while reaping its healthy rewards, especially during cold and allergy season. 

● Honey Straws Whether you need a portable pick-me-up after a workout or a convenient, natural way to ease a cough, our honey straws are a straight-up dose of pure antioxidant flower power. Pack a few to enjoy throughout the day or hand out to strangers who keep sniffling behind you in line. 

● Propolis Spray The bees make propolis to seal off their hives from intruders of all sizes, and humans have used it for millenia to treat infections and wounds. We’ve added it to a powerful spray to fight off bugs, soothe sore throats, and support respiratory health. Choose between the super strong echinacea version and the less-intense kid-approved flavor.
