Brightening Honey Face Mask

Avoid the hairline!

After a few really successful ventures into the homemade body care world, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a great facemask recipe. When I found one that contained raw honey and lemons, I knew I’d hit the jackpot. Raw honey (while delicious to eat) is chock full of good things for your skin. Not only is it naturally antibacterial, but it also has a ton of vitamins and antioxidants that leave your skin healthy and refreshed. Honey is also a natural humectant, which means it will draw in moisture from the air and locks it onto your skin to combat dryness. For this recipe I decided to use Savannah Bee raw Tupelo Honey because it has a lower amount of glucose sugar than other honeys, making it more soluble and great for body care.

Lemons also have surprising benefits for your skin. Like honey, they are antibacterial, but they can also help to lighten dark spots left by acne scars or aging, reduce oil, and help to remove dead skin cells. All of this combines to produce brighter and fresher looking skin.

Egg whites were the third ingredient to this recipe. I was a little skeptical but after some research I discovered egg whites are proven to tighten the elasticity of the skin and shrink pores. With a powerhouse of ingredients like this, and all ingredients I could easily find in my kitchen, where could I go wrong? Here is the recipe I used:

½ tablespoon raw Tupelo honey

½ tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 egg white

Brighter and fresher!

I mixed all of the ingredients in a bowl using juice I squeezed from a fresh lemon rather than concentrated lemon juice. I wanted the real deal! Then I whipped the mixture together until it started to foam, this took about one or two minutes. From there I scooped some up and applied it to my freshly washed face, avoiding the area around my eyes. The mixture was really runny so I tried to apply as much as I could without making a mess. Tip: avoid your hairline! Then you just leave the mask on until it dries and feels tight on your skin – about 20 minutes for me. When I washed it off, my skin felt refreshed and clean. I finished the treatment off with a dab of Savannah Bee Royal Jelly Body Butter, just to add some extra moisture. The Royal Jelly Body Butter is my all-time favorite Savannah Bee product, and I believe the royal jelly it contains has also helped lighten dark spots on my face and body. After this my face felt so great that I decided to go without makeup for the day, just to see the true effects of the facemask.

I don’t usually make it a habit of walking around without makeup, but the results were so fantastic! My skin felt bright and clean and I had no problem going throughout my day with confidence. This facemask is definitely one I’ll repeat at least once a week. I can’t wait to see its long-term effects, especially for lightening scars!

Stay tuned for the long term effects!
